I was going to make a comment about how Vox Machina had so many fridged moms, versus the Mighty Nein who had a much more refreshing set of backstory situations there ranging from “general dead/absent parent backstory, but never targeting their moms specifically” all the way to multiple characters who had happy, healthy relationships with their still-living mothers, but then I realized:
- As far as player characters go, Veth is actually a supposedly “dead mom” who managed to un-fridge herself and return to her son’s life over the course of the campaign
AND, arguably even FUNNIER:
The Mighty Nein finding and rescuing Vilya so she could return home to her family means that they swerved so hard away from the fridged mom trope, they managed to give one of Vox Machina their mom back, too
